Four Years Ago - a poem by Cassey Abella

I left my MP3 player somewhere along Serangoon Road

I haven’t gotten a new one since

I wonder who this sentimentality managed to melt into reverberate with

The most prismatic songs in my playlists:

  • ‘love u’ - Shye

  • ‘Cosmic Realignment’ - Subsonic Eye

  • ‘Capitol Theatre’ - 10vacations

I’d like to believe the accidental recipient stood

in front of Capitol Theatre

for the entire duration of the song 3 minutes of neon eternity

with the allure of f l i c k e r i n g l i g h t s

moonlight casting spells

reawakening a tired lover’s face

Tell me there is no end to the magic that you bring in your stare

When I left the little red dot

for the alps towering

beyond the blades of Singaporean skyscrapers

my best friend marked her spot in front of the theatre on an unbrushed evening
